Security Policy
Thank you for visiting the Jacqueline Jarrot Website.
We’ve done our best to ensure the security of your transactions
with us. Security involves making sure any sensitive information you
may provide is handled in a safe and secure manner. Below we’ve
tried to answer some of the most common questions and concerns about
security. If you don’t find your question answered here,
contact us by e-mail at
info@jacquelinejarrothandbags.com or by telephone number
listed below. If you have any concerns about ordering
electronically, you may call (310) 277-1189 to place your order
by telephone. Our telephone hours are Monday - Sunday 10:00
a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time (PST).
Is it safe to use my credit card to make purchases on the Jacqueline
Jarrot Website?
The Jacqueline Jarrot Website offers secure online shopping which means
that all products on our site can be ordered online using Netscape
Navigator® or Microsoft Internet Explorer® (web browsers that
support secure transactions). Your online order is placed using a
secure transaction server that will encrypt the order for security. If
you are using a browser that doesn’t support secure transactions,
you can place your order by telephone, fax, or regular mail.
So, we honestly think it is safe to use your credit card to make
purchases on our Website. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be doing
business on the Web. People buy from Jacqueline Jarrot because we offer
quality merchandise. Our website is an important aspect of that
service. If we offered a means of ordering that didn’t live up to
our standards, we’d be doing our customers and ourselves a
disservice.
What’s the worst thing that could happen?
In most U.S. states, you are liable for up to $50 of losses from credit
card theft. Although the time and hassle involved in replacing the card
is often far worse, it is reassuring that if someone gets your credit
card information (regardless of how), the down side is limited.
How do I know if a website is secure?
When you buy something on the Internet, there are three things to be
sure of:
1) Data you send is strongly encrypted.
2) The site you’re doing business with is the site you think it
is.
3) The site you’re doing business with processes your credit card
and address information in a safe and responsible manner.
The first two points above are taken care of by SSL (Secure Sockets
Layer), the industry standard security protocol that the Jacqueline
Jarrot site uses to communicate with secure browsers like Netscape
Navigator® and Microsoft Internet Explorer®. When communicating
with a secure server, these browsers encrypt the information you send
in a way that is extremely difficult for anyone to decode. If your
browser doesn’t support secure transactions, you won’t be
able to complete the checkout process.
According to many security experts, however, the most important thing
is what happens once a merchant receives your order. At Jacqueline
Jarrot we take several steps to keep things on our end as safe as
possible. For example, we keep orders encrypted until we’re ready
to process them. We process orders throughout the day, so they
don’t "sit" anywhere very long. We do our order processing on
machines that aren’t connected to the Internet, so there’s
no danger of people gaining access to them through the Internet.
Finally, we don’t keep a copy of your credit card number on file.
While some customers consider this to be a minor inconvenience,
(you’ll have to give us the number every time you order) we
believe it’s the safest and most honest way to do business.
Which parts of the
Jacqueline Jarrot site are secure?
The portion of the Jacqueline Jarrot site we’ve made secure is
the checkout area. This area of the website is where you actually
purchase the items you’ve put into your Shopping Cart. The entire
checkout process, from the introduction to seeing your final
confirmation, takes place in a secure environment.
There are several ways to confirm that you’re in a secure area.
All SSL capable browsers have a symbol to indicate a secure mode, which
is usually located in the lower right or lower left corner of the
browser. Specifically, the symbol could be a "closed" lock or
"complete" key (vs. an "open" lock or "broken" key which would indicate
normal or "insecure" mode).
You can also tell when you’re in a secure area because the URL to
the left of the colon changes from "http" to "https" to signify that a
SSL protocol is being used to communicate with the server (http =
HyperText Transport Protocol; https = HTTP with SSL). In most browsers
you’ll also see a solid blue line in the upper portion of the
browser’s window which is another visual aid indicating
you’re browsing a secure area.
You should also be aware that some browsers display a warning when you
go from a normal/insecure area to a secure area. Although this can be a
bit startling, the warning simply means that you’re entering the
safest, most secure area of our website (which should be reassuring,
since this is where credit card transactions take place). As long as
your browser shows its "secure mode symbol" when you continue,
it’s safe to send us your credit card information. The same
warning is displayed whenever you leave a secure area. Again, this can
be startling (giving you the feeling you’ve done something wrong,
even though you really haven’t) but is simply intended to inform
you that you are leaving a secure area and entering a normal-insecure
area.
Most of the activity on our site involves the viewing of content
we’ve prepared and made accessible to all visitors, so there is
no need for these pages to be "secure." With a product page, for
example, no security risk exists because there is no information being
exchanged.
